How to Shop When Nothing Matches Every Filter
Sooner or later, you want something that does not exist exactly as described. The right size, the right price, the right look, all in one item. When no item checks every box, the goal changes: find the one that fits best.
1. Separate must-haves from preferences
A must-have is something that truly rules an item out, like size or budget. A preference is something you’d like, such as a color, a cut or a condition. Write down the few must-haves and let everything else be a preference.
2. Start with the best fits
Among items that meet your must-haves, start with the ones that fit the most of what you’d like. You are comparing real options, not hunting for a perfect one.
3. Read the tradeoffs
Good results tell you what an item has, what it is missing, and what the store didn’t list. A missing detail is a decision, not a dead end. You decide whether you can live without it.
4. Treat unlisted details as unknown
If a store doesn’t list a detail, you can’t assume it. Look for search that says so plainly instead of hiding the gap.
Let search do the sorting
GoTenten searches the stores you already shop and does this sorting for you: it keeps your must-haves fixed, ranks the rest against your preferences, and shows the tradeoffs on every result. Then you check out on the store’s own site.
